Every Degree Counts! Every degree that you turn your thermostat up or down can make a different in your utility bill. So experiment, and find the optimal temperature for your comfort – and your wallet.
Keep Your Home Efficient. It can’t be stressed enough how important it is to service and maintain your heating and air conditioning system to ensure top efficiency. If it’s dirty, or if it has leaks or other inefficiencies, it will cost you significant money each month. It’s that simple.
Save When You’re Not Home. If nobody is going to be home for a significant period of time, consider turning your heat or air conditioning down (turning off in some cases may be appropriate, depending on how long you’ll be away). If you’re leaving pets behind, be sure to leave your home at a safe temperature.
Maintain Your Ducts. Improperly sized, sealed or installed ductwork is one of the most common causes of high energy bills. In fact, it can cost you thousands of dollars over the life of your system. If necessary, have a professional take a look to make sure your ductwork is in order.
Replace Those Antiques! If you furnace/air conditioner is dated, you may want to consider replacement. You would be amazed at how efficient new heating and cooling systems are today. Replace Filters. We all know we’re supposed to do this, but do you do it regularly? Be honest. Those who do will help keep their systems running as efficiently as possible – day after day, month after month.
Close Your Doors. Unless you need to regulate the temperature of their insides, keep the doors of cabinets, pantries, closets and storage rooms inside your home closed. Typically, it’s space that doesn’t require heating or cooling – and can be a waste of money if not paid attention to.
