One of the most damaging maintenance items in a home comes directly from something you use almost every day, but rarely notice – your washing machine hose.  It’s not surprising then that washing machine hoses are one of the most neglected items in a home. Why?  It’s pretty simple:  Out of sight – out of mind.   

Not checking your washing machine hoses is like not checking your oil.  Nothing seems to be wrong until that moment when you life seems to flash in front of you... as well as the floating dresser... and the sofa table... and the dog... all magically cascading out the front door on a burst-hose tsunami!! 

A burst washing machine hose can literally spill hundreds of gallons of water in to your house.  Prevention is as simple as having your hose checked regularly for signs of danger.  And when necessary, have it replaced and tag it with the date it was installed. 

As a general rule, hoses need to be replaced at least every five years – but that doesn’t mean a newer hose puts you out of risk.  Keep a watchful eye, as problems can pop out of nowhere.
